ACDC - Back in Black (1980) What isn't there to like about this album? Born out of death from vomit inhalation and a hurricane-plagued recording session, this is the ultimate all-killer-no-filler rock classic. 'Back in Black' was apparently the song Kurt Cobain learned to play after getting his first guitar and this was also the album Motorhead used to tune their instruments to. I look through the track listing and can immediately play any of them in my head. Moreover, I was late in getting to like ACDC and thought this was a greatest hits album on first hearing. At The Drive In - Relationship of Command

At The Drive In - Relationship of Command (2000) I love this album. It's loud. It's chaotic. It's perfect. This is where the band hit their apex. All the noises and changes fitting into place seamlessly. It should not be a sing-along album but I always find myself singing along. I only managed to glance them once playing at Reading festival through a crowd spilling out from a too-crowded tent. I was gutted when they split though was lucky enough to catch Cedric and Omar on the first Mars Volta tour in Portsmouth. I thought I was going to be well up for seeing them once they reformed but found the new material underwhelming. Aldous Harding - Party

Aldous Harding - Party (2017) This is probably the first album I got into through Twitter and Instagram. Having stopped buying music magazines (unable to abide the monthly fetishism of artists who first became famous before I was born), my only in-roads into new music have been 6 Music, friends' recommendations and whatever social media throws at me. I follow 4AD on both of the above and noticed the increasingly positive propaganda for Aldous Harding filtering through just before the summer last year. Rather than do my research via YouTube or Spotify, I reverted to my old 1990s and 2000s default of blind buying this album. This tactic has not always borne fruit in the past with my record collection littered with musical turds as a result, however this gamble was an exquisite and exemplary win.
