This album is like being punched by a very happy man with a brick who then wants to do push ups with you afterwards. How the album title failed to contain the word 'Party' is confusing considering it is the over-riding philosophy, theme and most mentioned word on the record. Everything on here exudes optimism and a good time philosophy. I should hate it.

I once saw Andrew WK play at the Portsmouth Pyramids centre. It was a part of the NME tour and the bands touring with him were The Coral, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and The Lost Prophets. My main memory of the evening (apart from Andrew WK and his band being awesome) is a pair of Lost Prophets fans screaming at the stage when he was on telling him to fuck off and that he was awful. Fast forward 16 years and Andrew WK lectures on partying and the singer from Lost Prophets is in prison for a variety of sex crimes including paedophilia.

This album stands the test of time because it was never really of its time. At a time when the Strokes, White Stripes and Yeah Yeah Yeahs were stripping everything back, I Get Wet featured layer after layer after layer of overdubbing. When toured live there were 4 guitarists on stage (not including the bassist. This multi-layered approach was intended to make the record as 'party' as possible. It worked.

My final nod to this album is that one new years eve, my friend and myself lost track of time drinking and listening to music. When midnight came, Party Hard was what we listened to. We then headed out on bikes to find a party.
